Please use our online tool as it has been upgaded to use the new firmaware.

Configuring VDSL Monitor for the first time:

To use VDSL Monitor you must first configure it. VDSL Monitor can be used in gateways using the 'old' firmware or the 'new' version 6.x and above.

To configure VDSL Monitor to work with the old firware enter the gateway's hostname/IP address and password used to access the MDC (management and diagnostic console) pages.

To configure VDSL Monitor to work with the new firmware enter the gateway's hostname/IP address and check the 'Use 6.x gasteway firmware' check box.

Unlike ADSL Monitor that required a word position matrix, VDSL Monitor is very simple to configure there is no need to search for pattern strings or values. If VDSL Monitor can connect to your 2Wire 3800HGV-x gateway you are set to go.

To test the hostname/IP address and password follow the following steps. From the main menu click the 'Actions / Test connection' menu option and wait for VDSL Monitor to display the connection results. If VDSL Monitor is successful the DMT graphs will appear in the DMT graph window as shown below and successful popup messages will appear. If VDSL Monitor is not successful read carefully the error messages and re-enter the correct information.


Once the gateway's hostname/IP address and password are validated closing VDSL Monitor using the 'File / Exit' menu option will store the login information in the registry. Note: All passwords used by VDSL Monitor will be stored in encrypted form to avoid prying eyes from retrieving them. Once the login information is stored in the registry there is no need to re-enter it each time you start VDSL Monitor. The registry key/values used by VDSL Moniotr are stored in 'Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\VDSLMonitor'

FTP upload configuration:

If you want to upload VDSL Monitor's statistics to your website or any other FTP server follow the following steps.

In the main menu click on 'Options' to open the following window:


In the server address enter the address of the ftp server you want the information to be uploaded to. Do not add the 'ftp://' string this is done automatically by VDSL Monitor. In the directory box enter the the remote directory where your files will be stored. In the remote file enter the name of the file that will be used to launch the page (index.html, index.htm, home.html, etc)

Continue by filling up the FTP server login user id and password given to you by your server administrator.

To enable automatic ftp uploads check the 'Enable automatic ftp upload' checkbox and set the upload interval timer to the desired value. We recomend a value of 5 minutes or more to reduce traffic, we've tested this feature with intervals as low as 1 minute without any problems. This feature is still in a testing phase so use it at your own risk. The values in this window must follow the rules set up by your FTP server administrator. For example our web server is running *nix and the directory must be enclosed with '/' characters so when VDSL Monitor builds the URL everything falls into place. This will vary from server to server depending on operating system and configuration. Once all the information is complete click the 'Save' button to store the values and then click on the 'Start update timer' button to initiate the process. When the FTP timeout occurs VDSL Monitor will upload all the image files along the initial page to the server.

VDSL Monitor uses a template for the home page. The template's name must be 'defaultpage' and depending on the windows version should be placed in the same directory that VDSL Monitor was installed in. Users can make their own templates using HTML or PHP and use VDSLM predefined tags to display the VDSLM generated fields. The tags currently used by VDSLM use are:

Error checking in the FTP client has not been fully implemented yet. If you get errors due to misconfiguration the client will not be able to recover and will abort the process so make sure you are able to connect to your ftp server and that you have rights to the upload directories before enabling this feature.
